On Some Misconceptions Concerning Digital Banking and Alternative Delivery Channels
2016
A great deal of conceptual confusion surrounds the notions of digital banking and innovative alternative delivery channels that support banking and other financial transactions globally. The authors contend that the concepts of digital banking and associated delivery channels are ambiguous and restrictive; their usability has been undermined and their purpose and objective have, to a large extent, been misunderstood. Against this backdrop, the authors offer an inclusive definition of digital banking and delivery channels and provide logical explanations of these terms that can benefit scholars, the telecommunication sector, the banking industry, policy makers, and service providers (in term…
Leveraging Partnerships with Logistics Service Providers in Humanitarian Supply Chains by Blockchain-based Smart Contracts
2019
As humanitarian organizations are struggling to reach an increasing number of beneficiaries, humanitarian-business partnerships, such as the use of logistics service providers (LSPs), promise to improve effectivity and efficiency of humanitarian assistance. Blockchain-based smart contracts which ensure automation, transparency, and efficiency promise to facilitate partnerships, particularly if trust is low. In this paper, blockchain-based smart contracts are critically examined for their application to humanitarian supply chains (HSCs). We identify various adoption barriers which we categorize into organizational, technological, and environmental. As the use of blockchain-based smart contra…
(Im)politeness in Service Encounters
2017
This chapter examines sociopragmatic research on commercial service encounters. It offers a precis of the studies that have utilised service encounters as a vehicle to examine (Im)politeness manifestations. It addresses the methodological advantages of the service encounter as a relatively formalised interactional site in which sociability and efficiency are managed, hence as a locus for the emergence of (Im)politeness orientations. The chapter traces the evolution of (Im)politeness research and discusses the complexities of capturing (Im)politeness practices in transformation: from face-to-face and telephone-mediated encounters to newer communicative arenas resulting from technological adv…
Does Implementation Follow Design? A Case Study of a Workplace Health Promotion Program Using the 4-S Program Design and the PIPE Impact Metric Evalu…
2017
Objective: The aim of this study was to describe the content of a multiyear market-based workplace health promotion (WHP) program and to evaluate design and implementation processes in a real-world setting. Methods: Data was collected from the databases of the employer and the service provider. It was classified using the 4-S (Size, Scope, Scalability, and Sustainability) and PIPE Impact Metric (Penetration, Implementation) models. Data analysis utilized both qualitative and quantitative methods. Results: Program design covered well the evidence-informed best practices except for clear path toward sustainability, cooperation with occupational health care, and support from middle-management …
ERP-järjestelmät - tulevaisuuden teknologiat ja kehityssuunnat
2009
Tähän ongelmaan on …
Challenges and directions for Blockchain technology applied to Demand Response and Vehicle-to-Grid scenarios
2021
Abstract Nowadays, Blockchain is considered a consolidated technology supporting many different applications that integrate well with Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things, and supports the creation of Decentralized Autonomous Organizations. Within this wider framework, the energy blockchain applications are now deserving more and more attention, since blockchain architectures, on one hand, provide transparency and solve the information asymmetry problem, on the other, provide disintermediation. In this way, the dream of an energy market closer to end-users becomes a reality, although, still, the regulatory framework is not clear, especially for what concerns the tokenization o…
Valodas izvēle tirdzniecības zīmēs
2017
<title>Statistical bandwidth allocation for multiservice networks</title>
2002
Multiservice networks will carry di erent kinds of applications in the near future. Bandwidth requirements change rapidly, and the network resource management will play an important role to guarantee the use of the limited resources in the most eAEcient way. We approach the channel capacity allocation problem by developing an SLA (Service Level Agreement) based channel allocation method. In our model, the channel may be wired or wireless, so this method can be adapted in multi-technique networks. The algorithm allocates resources to several di erent service classes via several di erent capacity routes. Service provider perfroms optimization by allocating data rate in such a way that the sat…
FederatedCloudSim
2014
Recent developments show that the standardization of cloud service descriptions and exchange leads the way for the rise of cloud federations. In these federations CSPs (cloud service providers) can use resources of other CSPs in the case of a lack of local resources or they can add remote services to their catalogue. Cloud federations again demand for cloud brokers which offer the resources and services of different CSPs transparently to the users. Research of cloud federations in the real world is very complex and expensive as distributed hard- and software scenarios are needed. Therefore we present FederatedCloudSim, a very flexible cloud simulation framework that can be used to simulate …
Expanding Horizons: The 3rd European Alternative Finance Industry Report
2018
The 3rd Annual European Alternative Finance Report presents the most comprehensive analysis of the status of alternative finance industry in Europe, covering more countries, alternative finance models, as well as industry trends and developments than was available in its predecessors. Much effort has been placed on data quality verifications and clarifications in an ongoing productive and collaborative dialogue with all platform informants and research partners. Here, we wish to acknowledge their invaluable contributions, without which this report could not have been written. Overall, the data collected shows that 2016 saw European alternative finance doubling its volumes from 2015, and con…
